HERBAL GOUT REMEDIES

Some people, especially among those who belong to the older age group, suffer from an arthritis-like condition known as gout. Gout is a result of uric acid build-up in the body. Uric acid is the result of purines broken down by the body. And most of the food available has purine content in them.

Gout sufferers have to endure the pain that lasts from a few hours to a few days. And in some rare cases, this unbearable pain can even last for weeks. There are medications available to lessen the pain and swelling. But with most medications, there can be adverse side-effects attached to it.

There are herbal remedies for gout, much cheaper and safer to use. The most popular and considered most effective gout herbal remedy is the cherry juice. Cherries have compounds known as anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are what make the cherries red.

What makes cherry juice so effective is that, the anthocyanins help stop the inflammation. And according to the studies done, anthocyanins have been found to lower the levels of uric acid in the blood. Too much build-up of uric acid causes painful swelling and inflammation. Sometimes, a mere touch can still be very painful for the sufferer. Consumption of cherry juice for several weeks has been proven effective for most people who have gouts.

Aside from cherry juice, there are other herbal gout remedies that can help excrete the excess uric acid. The following are some samples of the gout herbal remedies: Buchu tea helps in dissolving the crystallized uric acid; alfalfa works on reducing inflammation caused by gout; the Devil's Claw is another herbal remedy in reducing inflammation; and another tried and tested herbal gout remedy is eating two cloves of garlic per day.

Other gout herbal remedies that neutralized the build-up of uric acid are saffron, juniper, and nettle. Making a salve made from saffron can be used for achy joints. Juniper berries also known as gin berries help in stopping the build-up of uric acid that causes painful swelling in the joints. Nettle is natural anti-histamine that is also used to help stop the inflammation of the joints. A word of caution though when it comes to tinctures of nettle for these may even make the gout condition much worse.
